Aftercare

This is really important for longer lasting beautiful piercings and tattoos. Most aftercare is easy to follow and common sense.

Tattoo Aftercare

  • With clean hands, carefully remove wrap.

  • Wash with fragrance free soap and gentle fingertips and clean running water (NO SCRUBBING). Pat dry with clean disposable towel. (NO WIPEY, WIPEY)

  • After cleaning apply a small amount of lotion, mild and fragrance free. (I've had no trouble with coconut oil)

  • Continue cleaning 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks.

  • it is advisable to wear clean older, loose fitting, comfortable clothing over the tattooed area during the first sleep time as the tattoo area might secrete pigment and blood. usually resulting in staining.

  • During the healing process it is normal for the area to feel itchy and for small pieces of skin containing pigment to drop off. Don't pick or scratch at these.

  • Try to wear soft, loose clothing over the tattooed area while healing.

During the healing process ( approx 2 weeks ):

  • Keep your tattoo and surrounding area clean.

  • Only touch the tattoo during cleaning.

  • DO NOT submerge the tattooed area in standing water, swimming pools or rivers.

  • NO picking or scratching Tattoo.

  • DO NOT expose your tattoo direct sunlight or tanning beds.

  • even after healing always use a strong sun block on tattoos. ( sunlight bleaches the pigments. )

DISCLAIMER

These guidelines are considered fairly standard for tattooing practice. this is not to be considered a substitute for medical advice from a doctor. However, be aware that not many doctors have specific training or experience regarding tattooing and may not be the best person to assist you.

Piercing Aftercare

  • Wash hands with antibacterial soap, before touching piercing.

  • clean the piercing 3 or 4 times a day with saline or sea salt solution and once in a shower with antibacterial soap.

  • Do not prematurely remove jewellery (before healing has finished the hole will start to close immediately, and trauma caused by forced re-insertion of the jewellery very likely to cause infection)

  • Do not let the piercing come into contact with other people's/animal's bodily fluids.

  • Don't use Hydrogen Peroxide, Alcohol, (they dry out the area and can scar) or petroleum jelly (can trap bacteria).

  • Avoid submersing in standing water, swimming pools and rivers

  • Avoid Strong sunlight, tanning beds, suntan lotion sand. (If it's sounding outsidey and fun It's probably bad for the piercing)

  • Avoid clothing that might rub on piercing.

  • Oral piercings use alcohol free antibacterial mouthwash 3 times a day.

  • After eating or drinking rinse with warm water.

  • If there is jewellery external to the mouth treat the outside like the earlier guidelines.

  • Avoid smoking, chewing tobacco, spicey foods, milk and dairy until healed (again stop doing enjoyable stuff.

Initial jewellery is longer than normal to allow for swelling. After the healing process it should be changed for shorter jewellery. We can select the jewellery that is right for you and switch it out for you when it arrives.
